A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in Gaya district, where a six-year-old boy drowned in the Burhiya River near Mahmadpur village, under the Sherghati police station area. The deceased child has been identified as Prem Kumar, son of Pramod Manjhi, a resident of Mahmadpur. Upon receiving news of the incident, a crowd of villagers gathered by the riverbank, and the family members are in deep distress.

Villagers have alleged that excessive sand mining in the river has created several deep pits, which have filled with water. It is suspected that the child drowned in one of these deep pits. This incident has sparked considerable anger among the villagers, who are demanding an investigation into sand mining practices and immediate action regarding the dangerous pits formed in the river.

Following the incident, local residents searched extensively for the child but were unsuccessful. Upon receiving information, the Sherghati police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The police, with the help of locals, continued the search for the child. The Circle Officer stated that an SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team has been called to assist in the search, and a comprehensive search operation will be launched in the river once the team arrives. The administration is also gathering information regarding the causes of the incident and the villagers' complaints related to sand mining.
