The Bihar government's ambitious Agroforestry Scheme is encouraging farmers to plant trees, aiming to expand green cover, ensure additional income for farmers, and promote environmental conservation. This scheme is being successfully implemented in the Ghosi block of Jehanabad district, benefiting local farmers.

According to the Ghosi Forest Department, under this scheme, farmers are provided with timber and fruit-bearing saplings at a nominal rate of just ₹10 per plant. Farmers can plant these saplings on their farm boundaries, barren land, or other suitable locations. To avail the benefits of the scheme, farmers must purchase a minimum of 100 saplings from the Forest Department's nursery.

A key feature of the scheme is that if a farmer manages to keep at least 50% of the planted saplings alive for three years, the Bihar government provides an incentive of ₹70 per sapling directly into their bank account. To receive this incentive, farmers need to submit their Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and land receipt at the time of purchasing the saplings.

Sanjay Kumar, in-charge of the Ghosi Forest Department Nursery, stated that this scheme is highly beneficial for farmers. He emphasized that by adhering to the prescribed rules, farmers can not only receive government incentives but also earn good income from these timber and fruit trees in the future. The Forest Department has urged farmers in Ghosi to plant as many trees as possible and take advantage of the Agroforestry Scheme to increase their income and contribute to environmental protection.
