Following the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, on August 26, two primary shooters made their way to Dhamdaha in Purnia, Bihar. Investigations by the UP STF revealed that these shooters spent two nights in Itahari and Nirpur villages, located within the Dhamdaha police station area, after the murder. During their stay, they utilized internet data to establish their contacts.

It was discovered that the internet data used by the shooters was registered under the name of a local young woman. The UP STF questioned the woman's family members, and due to a lack of concrete information, they were taken to Patna for further interrogation. The woman, whose IP address was used for the internet access, is currently studying in Patna and has also been taken into custody for questioning. The STF aims to ascertain the relationship between the woman and the shooters, and how they managed to reach Dhamdaha. Efforts are also underway to identify who provided shelter to the shooters in Dhamdaha.

Ankit Baliyan was shot dead by bike-borne assailants as he was exiting a gym. A social media account linked to the Gogi gang claimed responsibility for the incident. Acting swiftly, the police and UP STF engaged two main shooters, identified as Sumit and Mohit, in an encounter on August 31, 2026, killing them both.

Further investigation revealed that the mobile SIM card used to claim responsibility for the murder was also issued from the Dhamdaha police station area. The UP STF's probe indicates that a total of six shooters were involved in the incident, with two already neutralized by the UP police. The two main shooters who fired at Ankit Baliyan were precisely the ones who had taken refuge in Dhamdaha. The UP STF is actively investigating the Bihar connection to this case.
