An employee, Mohammad Umar Farooq, was injured on Monday after being shot at the Block Resource Centre (BRC) campus in Jokihata, Araria district. The bullet grazed his wrist and lodged in his thigh. After initial treatment, he was referred to a private hospital in Purnia.

Mohammad Umar Farooq, a resident of Thapkol village in the Jokihata police station area, was initially taken to a private hospital in Araria. His family and associates initially told doctors that he had sustained an injury from an iron rod. However, an X-ray during treatment revealed a bullet inside his body, prompting doctors to inform the Araria Nagar and Jokihata police.

Upon receiving the information, Jokihata Station House Officer Rajiv Kumar Jha and Nagar Station House Officer Manish Kumar Rajak arrived at the hospital with their teams. Given the injured person's condition, doctors referred him to Purnia after initial treatment in the presence of the police. In his statement to the Nagar police, Umar Farooq stated that Mahtab Alam from Chakai village playfully drew a pistol and fired it. After the shooting, Mahtab initially took him to a doctor in Jokihata and then to Araria, but fled when the true nature of the injury became apparent.

Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar confirmed receiving information about a youth being injured in a shooting at the Jokihata BRC campus and stated that an investigation is underway. According to the SP, preliminary investigations suggest the weapon was fired accidentally during a jest among acquaintances present at the office. There was also an attempt to conceal the incident. Police have initiated action, thoroughly examining the crime scene, and conducting raids to recover the weapon. The police are also investigating how a weapon reached a government office like the BRC. The SP added that the individual involved has been identified and will be arrested soon.
