In Aurangabad, three individuals posing as CID officers defrauded a businessman of approximately 145 grams of gold jewelry. The incident occurred on Friday morning around 10:06 AM on MG Road, where renowned businessman Raghunandan Saw was walking near his home. Three men on two motorcycles approached him, claiming to be CID officials.

The perpetrators warned the businessman about increasing chain snatching incidents in the area, advising him to be cautious. They stated that wearing gold jewelry in public was unsafe and could lead to administrative action and a fine of ₹10,000. Believing their claims, Raghunandan Saw removed his gold chain, weighing about 110 grams (adorned with a rudraksha and trishul), and a gold ring weighing approximately 35 grams.

Following this, the tricksters executed their plan. One of them first removed his own chain and placed it in a handkerchief to gain the businessman's trust. They then pretended to wrap the businessman's jewelry in paper and tie it in a handkerchief. During this process, they swapped the handkerchief, placing one containing stones into the businessman's pocket instead of the gold jewelry. After committing the crime, the three culprits fled the scene. It was only after opening the handkerchief sometime later that the businessman realized he had been duped.

The victim, Raghunandan Saw, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Nagar police station, seeking justice. Nagar Station House Officer Baban Baitha stated that an FIR has been registered, and the police are actively working to identify the criminals and are conducting raids at various locations for their arrest. CCTV footage from the vicinity is also being examined, expected to provide clues about the perpetrators' appearance and escape routes.

This is not the first incident of jewelry fraud in Aurangabad. A similar crime occurred recently on Karma Road, where an elderly woman was targeted. Additionally, a few months ago, jewelry worth lakhs of rupees was stolen in Kutumba through deception. These recurring incidents have raised concerns among local businessmen and intellectuals, who are demanding the swift arrest of the criminals.
