A speeding car veered out of control and plunged into a roughly 20-foot-deep pond in the Rajoun police station area of Banka district late Friday night, resulting in the death of the driver. On Saturday, approximately 15 hours later, the deceased was identified as Kamal Kishore Thakur, son of Mahakal Thakur, a resident of Sukh Saina in the Barar Kothi police station area of Purnia district.

The accident occurred on the rural road leading to Singhnan village, near the Raipura Chemical Factory. Kamal Kishore was reportedly transporting a new car from a showroom in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, for delivery to Purnia. He was alone in the vehicle. While navigating from Amarpur towards Jagdishpur via the rural road of Singhnan village, the car lost control in the dark near the Raipura Chemical Factory, just before Jagdishpur, and fell into the pond.

Initially, there was suspicion that another person might have been in the car. Consequently, a five-member NDRF team conducted a three-hour search operation in the pond on Saturday morning, but no other individual was found, and the operation was called off.

According to Kailash Singh, a resident of Hasanpur village, he spotted the car's lights underwater in the dark and raised an alarm. Villagers and police initiated a rescue operation late into the night, and after considerable effort, the driver's body was recovered from the pond.

The absence of an SDRF team in Banka caused significant difficulties in the deep-water rescue. An SDRF team from Bhagalpur later arrived to assist. The family of the deceased reached the Banka Sadar Hospital post-mortem house upon receiving the news, where they were overcome with grief. Rajoun's acting SHO Vinod Kumar stated that the previously unidentified body has been identified and sent for post-mortem. Police are investigating the matter and taking further legal action.
