In Banma Itahari block of Saharsa district, continuous encroachment on the road built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is causing significant difficulties for local residents. Due to increasing encroachment on both sides of the road, the path has become so narrow that vehicular movement is severely hampered, consequently increasing the risk of accidents.

According to local villagers, this road connects several villages via the Banma Itahari market and is used by thousands of people daily. Encroachment has drastically reduced the road's width, especially in the market area, where shops and temporary stalls occupy a large portion of the road. This makes it very difficult for large vehicles such as tractors, trucks, and buses to pass, often leading to traffic jams.

Residents claim that despite numerous complaints to the administration, no concrete action has been taken. They assert that encroachers have been given a free hand, continuously expanding their boundaries. This situation has made it risky for pedestrians and cyclists to use the road. Minor accidents have become a daily occurrence, and there is a constant threat of a major accident.

Local people have urged the district administration and the concerned department to immediately address this issue, remove encroachments, and restore the road to its original width to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents. Villagers have also warned of agitation if the problem is not resolved soon.
