Bengaluru CEO Declares: No Jobs for Men from UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP; Sparks Social Media Debate
A recent announcement by Kartik SG, founder of Bengaluru-based startup A1 Sports World, on social media platform X has ignited a significant debate. SG stated that his company will no longer hire male candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, sparking widespread discussion about regionalism in recruitment processes.
Kartik explained in his post that this decision was made after extensive discussions and controversy. He also claimed that a Rajasthani female employee already on his team supported the move. However, critics argue that endorsing such a decision based on one individual's consent is not a valid justification for excluding an entire state's population.
Elaborating on the rationale behind the decision, Kartik mentioned in another post that about two weeks prior, an employee from one of these states was terminated. The employee was accused of inappropriate behavior towards female colleagues and failed to improve despite two warnings. There were also allegations of an attempt to coerce a female employee.
This incident raises a crucial question: Is it logical and fair to hold an entire state's population accountable for the misconduct of a single individual? Misbehavior is not confined to a specific region, religion, or community; it can occur anywhere and be perpetrated by anyone. Therefore, completely excluding candidates from particular states falls under discriminatory policy.
In defense of his company, Kartik stated that A1 Sports World has 32 employees, including 14 women. He added that 20 employees are from various states, and the company employs individuals from diverse religious backgrounds. Citing the presence of children in the workplace, he emphasized safety as a top priority. Nevertheless, critics contend that merely presenting diversity statistics does not justify discrimination based on regional origin.
Despite the backlash, Kartik has affirmed his commitment to the decision. He noted that the terminated employee was an MBA graduate whose resume initially appeared flawless, but his behavior changed after two months.
