On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, a legal awareness program was organized in Benipur Court premises, Sub-jail, and Buniyaad Center. The program, held under the instructions of Darbhanga's Principal District and Sessions Judge Ajay Kumar Sharma, focused on the maintenance, legal rights, and government schemes for senior citizens. Detailed information was provided to the elderly about their rights and available facilities.

Participants were informed that parents or senior citizens unable to maintain themselves can demand support from their children or heirs under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act of 2007 or the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita of 2023. It was also clarified that failure to provide maintenance could lead to imprisonment for up to three months or a fine of up to five thousand rupees.

Furthermore, information on various welfare schemes for the elderly was shared, including old-age pensions, special counters in banks and hospitals, and reserved seats and concessions in trains and buses. Attendees were also made aware of their right to free legal services, enabling them to seek legal aid when needed.
