3 Friends Missing After Attending Dussehra Fair in Bettiah, Families Accuse Police of Demanding Money
Three minor friends have gone missing from Jaukatiya Sheikh Toli, Ward No. 3, under the Majhaulia police station area of West Champaran district. The girls, identified as Manisha Kumari (16), daughter of Abhimanyu Ram; Anshu Kumari (12), daughter of Baliram; and Afsana Khatoon (15), daughter of Akbar Sai, left their homes on October 21 to attend the Dussehra fair in Majhaulia but did not return.
Manisha's mother, Anita Devi, stated that her daughter left home at 12 PM. When she did not return by evening, the family began searching, including multiple visits to the fair, but found no trace. They subsequently filed a missing person report at Majhaulia police station. Anshu's mother, Rita Devi, also confirmed that her daughter has been missing for three days.
Families of the missing girls have made serious allegations against the police personnel at Majhaulia police station, claiming that they are being asked for money to locate their daughters. The impoverished families expressed their distress, questioning how they could afford such demands to ensure their children's safe return.
Bettiah Superintendent of Police, Kumar Gautam, denied that any money is demanded from families. He assured that if such a demand was made, appropriate action would be taken against the individual involved. Majhaulia Station House Officer, Amar Kumar, stated that an investigation is underway based on the complaint, and the girls' location has been traced. Police are actively working to safely recover them as soon as possible.
