Teachers and employees in Bhagalpur have raised their voices, demanding the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and the complete abolition of contract, outsourcing, and temporary employment systems in government departments. A large-scale one-day Teachers and Employees Convention was organized on Sunday at the Pensioner Bhawan in Bhagalpur city, under the aegis of the Bhagalpur district branch of the Bihar State Non-Gazetted Employees Federation (Gopgut).

Over 200 employees, teachers, and representatives from various departments gathered at the convention, taking a collective pledge to launch a decisive struggle against the government's anti-labor and anti-employee policies. Dignitaries present included Niranjan Kumar Sinha, State President of the Federation (Gopgut); Premchand Kumar Sinha, State General Secretary; Gopal Paswan, State Secretary; Pawan Kumar Jaiswal, Purnia District President; and Shashi Kant Shashi, Chief Coordinator of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) Bihar state unit. Speakers addressed the conference, stating that the government's abolition of the old pension and forceful imposition of NPS (National Pension System) is akin to snatching away the support stick of employees in their old age.

The main objective of the conference was to make employees and teachers aware of their constitutional rights and to unite them against the exploitative contract system. The convention strongly criticized the state government's continuous reliance on contract and outsourcing appointments instead of regular recruitment in departments. Employee leaders presented data to illustrate how NPS exposes the future of employees to market risks and how the contract system leads to social and economic exploitation of educated youth. Speakers warned that the right to live a dignified life after retirement is not charity but a fundamental right of employees, which will be achieved at any cost.

A significant aspect of this gathering was the unity displayed by almost all small and large unions of the state, coming together on one platform. Representatives from Bihar State Primary Teachers Association (Gop Gut), 34540 Teachers Association, Secondary Teachers Association, BPSC Teachers Association, and Bihar State Teachers Federation (STF) marked a strong presence. Additionally, representatives from Railways, Income Tax Department, Health Services Association, Bihar Agricultural University Sabour and Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) teachers and non-teaching staff, Bihar Police Association, Electricity Workers Union, Municipal Corporation Employees Union, and Settlement-cum-Chakbandi Department also participated. In the day-long deliberation, speakers from various unions announced their intention to form a joint coordination committee and take the movement from villages to the capital. Finally, all unanimously warned the government that if the old pension is not restored soon, employees would be compelled to boycott work.
