Nutrition distribution has recommenced at all Anganwadi centers across Bihar. A significant change has been introduced in the distribution process: beneficiaries will now receive their nutritional supplements through a facial recognition system. This new system aims to enhance transparency and curb irregularities in the distribution process.

According to directives issued by the Women and Child Development Corporation, all Anganwadi workers have been trained on this new technology. Beneficiaries must be physically present at the center for their facial recognition to be authenticated before receiving the supplements. This measure is expected to ensure that the correct individuals receive their rations, thereby preventing fraud and misuse.

The implementation of the facial recognition system is a crucial step towards addressing long-standing issues of corruption and leakage in the Anganwadi program. Previously, there were frequent complaints that nutritional supplements either did not reach eligible beneficiaries or were tampered with. This new system is anticipated to resolve these problems effectively.

Furthermore, officials have been instructed to conduct surprise inspections to monitor the entire distribution process. They can visit any Anganwadi center at any time to verify the distribution system and ensure strict adherence to the new protocols. This increased accountability is expected to ensure that beneficiaries receive their due nutrition promptly and in the correct quantities, ultimately improving the nutritional status of children and pregnant women in the state.
