Following heavy rainfall in Nepal, five districts in Bihar are currently grappling with floods due to rising river water levels. While there has been a marginal drop in the water levels of several rivers, including the Gandak and Ganga, over the past 24 hours, the threat has not fully subsided. So far, 5600 people have been rescued and evacuated to safer locations, and 2,327 polythene sheets have been distributed in the affected areas.

East Champaran, West Champaran, and Sitamarhi districts have been identified as the most vulnerable, with district administrations instructed to maintain heightened vigilance. The disaster management department in Gopalganj is also on high alert due to the potential impact of the Gandak river. In Patna, the Ganga's water level remains above the danger mark in some areas but is gradually receding. Residents in diara (riverine) areas are advised to exercise caution.

Umesh Kumar Singh, in-charge of the State Emergency Operations Center, stated that the control room is monitoring the situation round the clock. District administrations are raising awareness at the panchayat level, and all District Magistrates have been directed to evacuate people from affected areas as needed. The administration is particularly concerned about water reaching diara and low-lying areas in Patna, urging residents there to move to higher ground. Continuous announcements are being made, advising people to stay away from rivers and to seek refuge in relief camps if necessary.

Local public representatives, including Mukhiyas and ward councilors, have been asked to remain active in their respective areas and promptly report any emergency to the administration. NDRF and SDRF teams are deployed in all sensitive regions, ready to commence rescue operations. Relief materials, including dry rations and polythene sheets, are being provided to affected individuals, with dry rations already distributed in West Champaran.

Currently, seven community kitchens are operational, providing food to flood-affected people and those moved to safe locations, with plans to increase their number if required. Special arrangements have been made to secure the embankments of the Gandak, Ganga, and other sensitive rivers. Home Guards, engineers, and other personnel are stationed approximately every 3 kilometers along the embankments, and officials are instructed to remain on high alert throughout the night.
