Bihar is grappling with severe floods as river water levels continue to rise, prompting the state government to accelerate relief and rescue operations. Under the Chief Minister's directives, the Disaster Management Department is fully mobilized in affected districts. As of Saturday, approximately 10.26 lakh people in 201 panchayats across 50 blocks in 11 districts have been impacted by the floods.

The surging waters of the Punpun river have severely disrupted train services on the Patna-Gaya rail section. On Friday night around 8 PM, floodwaters at rail bridge number 21 near Punpun Ghat reached the down line track and even touched the bridge girders. For safety, the down line of the PPN-PRBZD section was closed from September 4, 8:10 PM, until further notice. Currently, trains are operating on the up line. Public Relations Officer Saraswatichandra stated that in view of the serious situation, about 10 MEMU trains operating between Gaya-Patna and Patna-Gaya were cancelled on Saturday, September 6. These include trains 63242, 63244, 63245, 63247, 63248, 63250, 63251, 63253, 63256, and 63274. Additionally, the routes of several express trains, including 13329 Dhanbad-Patna Express, 13330 Patna-Dhanbad Express, 15138 Banaras-Rajgir Express, and 15137 Rajgir-Banaras Express, have been diverted.

According to the Disaster Management Department, an intensive campaign is underway to provide immediate relief to flood victims. Fifty medical camps, 19 boat ambulances, and 36 veterinary camps are operational in affected areas to provide health facilities and safe transit. A total of 858 boats are being used for the evacuation and movement of displaced and affected people. Over 12,000 polythene sheets and approximately 2,300 dry ration packets have been distributed. Thirty-eight community kitchens are providing two hot meals daily to flood victims, having served about 1.21 lakh people so far. A relief camp in Vaishali district is accommodating 326 flood-affected individuals with lodging, food, and medical facilities. Seven NDRF and 27 SDRF teams are deployed in various affected districts for rapid relief and rescue operations.

River levels remain critical: the Ganga at Patna's Gandhighat, Banka Ghat, and Pandarak is flowing above its highest flood level. The Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak, Punpun, and Ghaghra rivers are also above danger marks in several places. In Saran district, an embankment of the Mahi river near Trilokchak has been damaged over approximately 20 meters. The Meteorological Department forecasts light to moderate, and heavy rainfall in some parts of the state over the next two days. To manage waterlogging in Patna, all 56 DPS are operational, and 94 additional pumps have been installed across six municipal zones for water drainage.
