A significant announcement brings good news for candidates aspiring to become librarians in government schools across Bihar. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has officially commenced the online application process for the School Librarian Eligibility Test (SLET) 2026 from October 1, 2026. Aspiring candidates have until October 21, 2026, to submit their applications. The examination will be conducted in a Computer Based Test (CBT) mode between November 19 and December 10, 2026.

The eligibility test will comprise 150 multiple-choice questions, each carrying one mark, for a total of 150 marks. Candidates will be allotted 150 minutes (two and a half hours) to complete the exam. Importantly, there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. This examination is not a direct recruitment for librarian positions but serves to determine the eligibility of candidates. Those who successfully clear this test will be qualified to participate in the subsequent librarian recruitment process.

The test structure includes 100 questions from Library and Information Science and 50 questions from General Knowledge. The Library Science syllabus aligns with the Bachelor in Library Science curriculum offered by recognized universities. Eligibility criteria require candidates to be residents of Bihar and hold a Bachelor's degree in Library Science, with a minimum of 45% marks for the general category (relaxations apply for reserved categories).

A special age relaxation of 10 years has been granted to all categories. The maximum age limit for general male candidates is 37 years, for general female, BC, and EBC candidates it is 40 years, and for SC-ST candidates, it is 42 years. Minimum qualifying marks for the eligibility test are 50% for general category, 45.5% for BC, 42.5% for EBC, and 40% for SC-ST, physically challenged, and female candidates.

Candidates can apply online through the designated SLET portal of BSEB until October 21, 2026. It is crucial for applicants to thoroughly review their educational qualifications, age limits, and required documents before applying. For preparation, candidates should focus on revising the graduate-level syllabus of Library Science and also prepare for General Knowledge.
