The process of teachers' transfers and postings was underway in Bihar, with applications being accepted. In a significant development, the Patna High Court has issued a major order regarding the surplus transfer of teachers. On Monday (August 17, 2026), the Patna High Court temporarily halted the surplus transfer process. Following this order, teachers will remain in their current schools for now.

Justice Ajit Kumar's single bench heard a petition (CWJC 12326/2026) and directed that the current arrangement be maintained until further clarity is provided. Petitioners informed the court that there were several discrepancies in the surplus transfer process, causing mental and practical difficulties for teachers. This High Court order has brought significant relief to teachers concerning the surplus list and potential transfers. Attention is now focused on the next hearing of the case and the government's response.

Meanwhile, on the same Monday, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari held a meeting with departmental officials at the Madan Mohan Auditorium in Vikas Bhawan. He instructed them to expedite the resolution of pending cases related to teachers. Mithilesh Tiwari also announced that offline applications would cease after September 5, and all teachers would henceforth apply through the e-Shikshakosh portal. The meeting also discussed the recruitment of librarians and assigning Block Education Officer (BEO) responsibilities to newly appointed Bihar Education Service officers. Additionally, the payment of seven months of outstanding salaries for Sanskrit and Madrasa teachers was reviewed, and the minister directed officials to complete the payment process before September 5.
