The date for the Jitiya festival holiday in Bihar's government schools has been changed. Previously, the holiday was scheduled for October 5th, but the education department has now shifted it to October 3rd. This change comes after instructions from Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, meaning students and teachers will now observe the Jitiya holiday on October 3rd instead of October 5th.

According to the new directive from the education department, schools will remain closed on October 3rd for the Jivitputrika Vrat, or Jitiya. Following this alteration, the holiday previously scheduled for October 5th under the name of Jitiya will no longer be valid, and normal school operations will resume on that day unless further orders are issued.

This change will result in a consecutive two-day holiday at the beginning of October. October 2nd is already a designated holiday for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The following day, October 3rd, will now be observed as the Jitiya festival holiday. Thus, students and teachers in Bihar's government, project, and upgraded schools will have two consecutive days off on October 2nd and 3rd.

The demand for a change in the Jitiya holiday date had been ongoing, leading the department to make this alteration based on the Education Minister's directives. Schools are now required to adjust their schedules according to these new holiday instructions. Students and teachers should note that while the 2026 holiday calendar initially listed the Jitiya holiday on October 5th, it has now been changed to October 3rd.
