Preparations are gaining momentum for the construction of the fourth rail corridor in India's strategically vital 'Chicken Neck' region. Under this ambitious project, a new railway line will be laid from Thakurganj to Chaterhat, and the survey work is progressing rapidly. The Ministry of Railways is prioritizing this project, aiming to further strengthen connectivity to the country's northeastern states.

Known as the Siliguri Corridor, the Chicken Neck is a narrow strip of land connecting mainland India with its northeastern states. Given its strategic importance, developing robust transport infrastructure here is crucial. Currently, three rail corridors exist in this region, but the need for a fourth was felt due to increasing demands and future security challenges.

Survey work for the new Thakurganj-Chaterhat rail line is underway, including soil testing and preliminary assessments related to land acquisition. This new line will not only facilitate passenger movement but also enhance freight capacity, thereby boosting the region's economic development. Furthermore, it will provide a critical route for military and logistics movement in border areas, strengthening national security.

According to railway officials, all necessary steps are being taken to complete the project as soon as possible. Technical experts and engineers are conducting intensive on-site surveys to ensure the project's timely and efficient execution. The completion of this corridor will ease access to the northeastern states of India and strengthen India's strategic position. This project is also expected to generate employment opportunities and boost the local economy.
