122 BSAP Jawans Hospitalized in Darbhanga After Tear Gas Training
In Darbhanga, 122 Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) jawans were hospitalized after falling ill during tear gas training at the BMP-13 camp on Wednesday. All were admitted to DMCH Emergency after complaining of vomiting.
BSAP Commandant Ravish Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that initially, 7 jawans were confirmed to be unwell, while others were sent to the hospital for precautionary check-ups and treatment. Officials reported that all jawans are currently undergoing treatment at DMCH and are under medical observation. While there was a stir in the camp, officials ruled out any major danger.
Commandant Kumar explained that a model training program for experienced trainees was underway, which included tear gas training. Some female trainees, particularly due to the intense heat, fell ill after coming into contact with the tear gas smoke released during the training. These are newly recruited female constables who have been undergoing training for about a month. More than five individuals experienced vomiting and were subsequently brought to DMCH.
According to the Commandant, five jawans are currently admitted to the hospital, while the rest have been discharged after treatment and are in stable condition. He ruled out the possibility of food poisoning, stating that meals are prepared daily for approximately 1100 jawans in the mess, and the incident was attributed to exposure to tear gas smoke.
