Darbhanga has seen a significant increase in traffic challans this year, with 42,663 vehicles fined and over ₹7.88 crore collected from January to July. This amount surpasses the total collection for the entire year of 2025. However, questions are now being raised about whether similar actions will be taken against police personnel who violate traffic rules.

A video recently went viral from the Nagar Thana area, showing an individual in plain clothes riding a Dial-112 marked motorcycle without a helmet, with a school child as a pillion rider. When questioned by the person filming, the rider was seen saying 'stop-stop'. The viral video has sparked discussions on social media, with the official Facebook account of the Rashtriya Janata Dal also posting it and criticizing the Bihar Police regarding traffic rule enforcement.

Furthermore, it's common to see some police personnel on city roads driving without helmets, seatbelts, or engaging in triple riding. Some private vehicles display 'Police' in bold letters, often disregarding traffic regulations. Even some Dial-112 patrol officers are seen without helmets, and instances of female police officers riding scooters without helmets have become a topic of public discussion.

While Darbhanga Police appeals to the general public to adhere to traffic rules like wearing helmets and seatbelts and assures continuous action against violators, the public is increasingly asking if rules are applied equally to everyone. Will police officers and personnel face challans for breaking rules, just like ordinary citizens?

Traffic DSP Prakash Kumar stated that he became aware of the incident through the media. He assured that an investigation would be conducted, and if any police officer or official is found to have violated rules, departmental action would be taken against them. He also mentioned that the police have not yet received the video but assured that necessary action would be taken based on the investigation.
