Darbhanga police have made a significant arrest in connection with an alleged smack peddling operation being run from an Airtel mobile tower campus in Dumri Morh, under the Biraul police station area. The main accused, Deepu Kamat (25), was apprehended after evading arrest during an earlier raid. On September 18, police had raided the tower premises, recovering 1.68 grams of smack. During that operation, tower technician Lala Patel was arrested, and security guard Kamini Devi was questioned, while Kamat, a resident of Dumri village, fled under the cover of darkness.

Acting on a tip-off received on Sunday morning that Kamat was in the area, a police team successfully arrested him. According to Station House Officer Chandramani, Kamat confessed during interrogation that he was operating the smack business from the tower campus. Crucial leads have emerged, indicating connections to the bordering district of Saharsa.

The initial raid on September 18 was prompted by information received by SI Mukesh Kumar during a patrol around 7:30 PM, suggesting smack dealing in a room within the tower premises. Following this, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Biraul SHO were informed, and an agricultural coordinator, Shailendra Kumar Chaman, was deputed as a magistrate. Around 9 PM, the magistrate and police force searched the tower campus. Inside a room made of bricks and asbestos, a brown substance suspected to be smack was found on a glass plate on a wooden cot. It weighed 1.68 grams. Police also recovered a knife, blade, steel spoon, torn aluminum roll, and a plastic bottle with an attached 'fooka' (used for drug consumption). The entire operation was videographed and uploaded to the e-evidence app.

Lala Patel, the arrested technician, hails from Bahilwara Gwal Dakshin in Saraiya police station area, Muzaffarpur district. Security guard Kamini Devi, a resident of Devkuli, is under investigation for her role. With Kamat's arrest, police are now actively investigating the entire network involved in the purchase and sale of smack, including its source and other accomplices. A case (Biraul PS Case No. 658/26) has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
