A 23-year-old postgraduate student, Nidhi Kumari, was found dead, hanging from the ceiling fan, in a private girls' hostel in Darbhanga on Monday. Nidhi was pursuing her postgraduate studies at Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU). The incident occurred at Annapurna Girls' Hostel, located near the SBI Kadirabad branch under the University Police Station area.

According to hostel owner Arun Mishra, Nidhi was found with headphones on and her mobile phone lying in front of her, suggesting she might have been on a video call. It is suspected that the person she was video calling informed the Dial-112 police, who then directly arrived at the hostel.

The police received information that the hostel room had been closed for an extended period. The police team reached the spot and, after receiving no response despite knocking, broke open the door. Inside, the student's body was found hanging by a dupatta from the fan. The deceased was a resident of Ghatbhatra village in the Bisfi police station area of Madhubani district.

Upon receiving news of the incident, a Forensic Science Lab (FSL) team also arrived and collected evidence from the scene. University Station House Officer Sudhir Kumar stated that the body has been sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for post-mortem, and the family has been informed. While the case initially appears to be a suicide, the police are investigating all angles. The mobile phone and other digital evidence will also be examined to ascertain the exact cause of death.
