Darbhanga/Madhubani: A 23-year-old student, Nidhi Kumari, was found dead, hanging from a fan with a dupatta, in her room at Annapurna Girls Hostel near the SBI branch in Kadirabad, under the University Police Station area in Darbhanga on Monday. The incident has caused a stir in the area. While preliminary investigations suggest suicide, police are examining all angles.

Nidhi Kumari, daughter of Vidyanand Yadav, was a resident of Ghatbhatra village in Bisphi police station area of Madhubani district. She was pursuing her B.Ed after completing her postgraduate studies from Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) and resided in the hostel.

The police were alerted via Dial-112 from Patna about a hostel room being closed for a long time. Upon arrival, the University Police Station team knocked on the door, but receiving no response, they broke it open to find the student's body. The Forensic Science Lab (FSL) team also reached the spot, meticulously inspected the scene, and collected crucial evidence. The room has been sealed, and an investigation is underway.

According to the hostel warden, when the door was opened, the student had headphones in her ears, and a mobile phone was placed in front of her, seemingly engaged in a video call. It is suspected that the person Nidhi was conversing with on the video call, or an acquaintance, informed Dial-112 in Patna, leading to police intervention.

University Station House Officer Sudhir Kumar stated that while the case initially appears to be a suicide, all aspects are being investigated. The student's mobile phone and other digital evidence will be scrutinized. The body has been sent to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for post-mortem, and her family has been informed. Kumar added that the exact cause and circumstances of death would only be clear after the post-mortem report, FSL investigation, and analysis of digital evidence.
