Vimal Kumar, the Executive Officer (EO) of Dehri Dalmianagar Nagar Parishad in Bihar's Rohtas district, was murdered late Saturday night in Aurangabad district. Initial reports indicate that Kumar was en route from Dehri-on-Sone to Patna when unidentified armed assailants intercepted his vehicle on the Barun Canal Road. They attacked him with iron rods and sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The incident has sparked widespread anger among municipal officials across the state. On Sunday, municipal employees staged a protest at Kumar's residence on Gola Road in Danapur, Patna, after his body arrived. They alleged that this was the second murder of an official in the past three months and questioned the state of governance, holding placards that read 'Chief Minister, answer us'.

However, Bihar Police claim to have solved the case. Magadh IG Vikas Vaibhav stated that the Executive Officer's driver confessed to the murder, admitting he attacked Kumar with an iron rod following an argument. Senior police and administrative officials had immediately reached the scene to investigate. Rohtas District Magistrate Deepak Kumar Mishra and Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar, along with Aurangabad SP Upendra Nath Verma, visited Narayan Medical College and Hospital.

Vimal Kumar's wife, Babita Kumari, had previously made serious allegations against the local Dehri MLA, accusing him of demanding Rs 25-50 lakh and constant harassment. Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Sonu Singh of LJP (Ram Vilas) is the current MLA from Dehri. Family members had initially suspected the driver and demanded a narco test. The post-mortem report is awaited for further details on the incident.
