Patna: Police in Dhanarua, an area adjacent to Bihar's capital Patna, have busted an inter-state child trafficking gang, arresting two women and safely rescuing a two-month-old infant. The swift action by the police, combined with the efforts of various agencies, led to the successful recovery of the child, who has since been reunited with her father.

The arrested women have been identified as Mita Bhaumik, wife of Vikas Bhaumik, a resident of Kharsia, Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, and Sunita Bhattacharya, wife of Parth Bhattacharya, a resident of Durgnagar, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.

The case came to light after Pooja Kumari, wife of Raju Giri, a resident of Pabhera village, filed a complaint. Pooja stated that on June 23, 2026, a village resident named Sushila Devi took her and her children to Patna under the pretext of securing a job. In Patna, Sunita Devi, her husband Anil Ram, and Neelu Devi allegedly lured her with a job offer in Kota, Rajasthan. During this time, they took her two-month-old daughter, claiming they would leave her with relatives, only to later sell her to another woman. Upon reaching Kota, the accused informed Pooja that her child had been sold and could not be returned.

Following the complaint, Dhanarua police launched an intensive investigation. With the help of technical and human intelligence, and in collaboration with Jehanabad RPF and GRP, the two women were apprehended from a sleeper coach of a train. They have been brought to Dhanarua Police Station for further legal proceedings.

DSP-2 Kanhaiya Kumar Singh stated that a woman from Ped village in Dhanarua and two women from Patna were involved in selling three infants under the guise of providing jobs. He confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, including the two inter-state gang members. The rescued child was handed over to her father, Raju Giri, at the GRP Police Station in Jehanabad Junction.
