The application period for the fourth phase of the Bihar School Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4.0) has concluded, attracting a record 9.95 lakh (nearly 1 million) applications. This marks the highest number of applications received for any teacher recruitment drive in Bihar to date. A total of 33,320 vacant posts in the education department are to be filled.

The increase in applications is partly attributed to the inclusion of appearing candidates. A significant number of applicants are from other states, particularly Uttar Pradesh, which accounts for the majority of applications in the primary level (classes 1 to 5). This high volume of applications suggests intense competition, with over one lakh (100,000) applications from outside Bihar.

The two-year gap since the last recruitment phase is also considered a reason for the surge in applications, providing candidates with additional preparation time. The examination for this phase is tentatively scheduled between January and February. The continuous conduct of the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) in recent years has also increased the pool of eligible candidates.

The breakdown of posts includes 3,847 for classes 1-5, 8,563 for classes 6-8, 4,380 for classes 9-10, and 16,540 for classes 11-12. A new feature this year is the introduction of negative marking (1/3rd deduction) and a fifth option on the OMR sheet. Candidates must carefully consider their answers, as failing to mark the fifth option for unanswered questions will also result in negative marking, indicating a high cutoff.
