The Ganga river's water level is rapidly rising in Buxar district, causing concern among residents of riparian areas. According to data from the Central Water Commission, Buxar, on Tuesday morning at 8 AM, the Ganga's water level was recorded at 56.62 meters, with the water rising at a rate of 4 centimeters per hour. After 9 AM, the rate of increase accelerated to 6 centimeters per hour. By 3 PM, the water level had reached 56.90 meters.

Currently, this level is 2.72 meters below the warning level of 59.32 meters. However, given the rapid pace of the rise, it is anticipated that the water level will soon reach the warning mark. Geographically, the low-lying areas of Buxar, Chausa, Simri, Chakki, and Brahampur blocks are most susceptible to flooding. Additionally, the swelling Ganga increases pressure on its tributary, the Thora river, posing a flood threat to several villages in Itarhi and Sadar blocks.

As in previous years, the historic Buxar Fort area is also facing erosion. The impact of this unexpected increase in the Ganga's water level is now evident in the coastal and low-lying regions. There is a risk of floodwaters spreading from Ramrekha Ghat to Sarimpur. Local experts and elders believe that if the water continues to rise at this rate, the district will face a significant flood threat. A large population residing along the Ganga's banks suffers extensive damage every year due to floods. The administration has urged caution during Ganga baths and advised preventing children from entering the river.
