पुलिस ने घटना की गंभीरता को देखते हुए तत्काल जांच शुरू की। अपराधियों की पहचान और उनकी गिरफ्तारी के लिए पुलिस ने विभिन्न तकनीकी और मानवीय पहलुओं पर गहनता से काम किया। इसी जांच के क्रम में पुलिस टीम ओडिशा तक पहुंची और वहां से नरेश प्रधान को धर दबोचा। पुलिस अब इस मामले में शामिल 'केला गैंग' के अन्य सदस्यों की तलाश में जुटी हुई है और जल्द ही उन्हें भी गिरफ्तार करने का दावा कर रही है।
