The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway project is rapidly progressing in Bihar. Land acquisition in East Champaran district has reached its final stage. The district administration has directed all Circle Officers (COs) to prepare and submit the 'Khesra Panji' (land record register) to the district headquarters within a month to ensure timely completion of further procedures. The valuation of land to be acquired for the project has been finalized, with a five-member team completing its survey. Digital and physical records of the land are now being prepared to advance the acquisition process.

The expressway will pass through eight districts of Bihar: West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. This project will connect 39 blocks and 313 villages across the state with an improved road network. Officials stated that after the 'Khesra Panji' is ready, land ownership and area will be verified. Any objections will then be addressed, followed by the commencement of compensation payments to landowners.

This approximately 520-kilometer-long expressway is estimated to cost around 32,000 crore rupees. Vehicles will be able to travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h, significantly reducing travel time. In East Champaran district, the expressway will span about 70 kilometers, traversing 56 revenue villages across 8 circles before entering Sheohar district. Being a greenfield project, it is expected to face fewer land acquisition hurdles and ensure faster construction. This expressway will enhance road connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Northeast India, reducing freight costs and time. The development of logistic parks, warehouses, and industrial corridors along the expressway is also expected to create new employment opportunities. Kumar Vimal Kant, District Land Acquisition Officer of East Champaran, confirmed that all technical procedures related to land acquisition are being expedited for timely completion.
