Internships have now been made mandatory for undergraduate students in their fifth semester across universities in Bihar. This significant change is being implemented under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to provide students with practical experience alongside their academic knowledge. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued guidelines to all universities in this regard, following which universities in Bihar have begun the process of implementation.

This new provision will primarily benefit students of the 2023-27 academic session, who are currently in their second semester and will reach their fifth semester in the coming years. These students will be required to complete an internship as part of their curriculum. The main objective of the internship is to expose students to real-world experience in their chosen fields, better preparing them for future employment.

The duration and format of the internships will be determined by the respective universities, but typically they could range from a few weeks to several months.
