Nalanda News: The long-awaited board meeting of Islampur Nagar Parishad on Thursday culminated in a major uproar. A heated debate erupted between ward councilors and officials regarding the selection of development schemes and meeting procedures, escalating to the point of nearly turning into a physical altercation. Islampur police had to intervene to control the situation.

During the meeting, several ward councilors alleged that schemes were added to the proceedings register without their consent. They also claimed that many proposals were approved despite not receiving a majority. Ward councilors Guddu Kumar, Aarti Devi, Sania Gupta, Dinesh Paswan, Pratibha Sinha, and other members accused the authorities of lacking transparency in scheme selection. They stated that development works related to their wards and local problems were not taken seriously in the meeting.

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute began with the demand for the previous meeting's proceedings register. The argument intensified, leading to shouting and nearly a physical fight. Upon receiving information, Islampur police arrived at the Nagar Parishad office and calmed the situation by mediating between both parties.

Nagar Parishad Executive Officer Puja Mala dismissed the allegations as baseless. She stated that 22 out of 26 ward councilors were present, and the meeting was conducted according to rules. According to her, the atmosphere deteriorated due to internal disputes among some councilors, which was brought under control with police assistance. She emphasized that the board meeting was conducted in adherence to regulations.

Even after the meeting concluded and the Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Councilor Tanveer Alam retired to their chambers, debates continued outside the assembly hall among some ward councilors regarding schemes and meeting procedures. This incident has raised questions about the functioning of the Nagar Parishad and the process of approving development schemes. It remains to be seen whether these allegations will be investigated.
