In a significant operation, the Excise Department in Jehanabad district seized a large consignment of English liquor from a gravel-laden truck. The incident occurred on Monday night after the department received a tip-off about illegal liquor being transported. Acting on the intelligence, an Excise Department team set up a blockade and intercepted the truck.

Excise officials reported that during the raid, the truck driver managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Upon searching the vehicle, the team discovered 240 bottles of English liquor hidden beneath a layer of gravel. The seized liquor, totaling approximately 216 liters, is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.

The Excise Superintendent stated that the confiscated liquor bottles have been brought to the Excise Police Station, and an FIR has been registered against the unknown driver under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act. Police are now conducting raids to identify and apprehend the absconding driver. Efforts are also underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the illicit consignment.

Despite the liquor ban in Bihar, the illegal trade of alcohol continues unabated. Liquor smuggled from neighboring states is being distributed through various means. The Excise Department and police are continuously conducting operations against such smugglers, but they continue to devise new methods for supplying alcohol. This incident once again highlights the persistent challenge posed by liquor smugglers and the need for more effective measures to curb their activities.
