Patna: Even before its official inauguration, the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane bridge has been targeted by thieves who stole copper wires from its streetlights. The stolen wires are estimated to be worth ₹2.50 lakh, plunging approximately 2 kilometers of the bridge into darkness. Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the theft and recovered some of the stolen wires.

Fatuha SDPO-1 Awadhesh Kumar stated that on Friday, police received information about the theft of wires from beneath the bridge. After verifying the information, a police team raided the area and arrested Roshan Kumar (24) and Golu Kumar (19), both residents of Deedarganj Checkpost. They were found with 72.500 kilograms of copper wire packed in three sacks. The SDPO informed that street light wires from pillar number 1 to 45 were cut, and wires up to pillar number 21 have been recovered. Raids are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen wires. A case has been registered at Nadi Police Station, and further action is being taken.

This incident is not the first issue to plague the bridge. Earlier, images emerged from Hemanpur, Vaishali, showing soil and sand erosion near the approach road roundabout beneath the bridge, raising concerns about its structural integrity. However, RK Singh, Admin Head of construction company L&T, has assured the bridge's strength, stating that anyone can hire an engineer to inspect it thoroughly.
