In Khagaria district's Salarpur village, under Parbatta police station, the partially burnt body of 85-year-old Veena Devi was found on a cot outside her younger son's house on the night of August 2nd. Two days after the incident, on Tuesday, the police registered a murder case against two of the woman's sons and other unknown individuals. Preliminary police investigation suggests a family dispute over nine kathha of land as the primary motive for the murder. Both named accused are reported to be absconding since the incident.

The deceased was identified as Veena Devi (85), wife of late Saudagar Singh. Police received a call on Dial-112 around 2:45 AM on August 2nd, reporting that Veena Devi of Salarpur had caught fire. The police team arrived at the scene and recovered a partially burnt body lying on plastic outside Sanjay Kumar Shastri's house around 3:30 AM.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, an FSL team conducted an investigation. Several facts emerged during the FSL probe, leading police to suspect that the woman had died earlier, and her body was set on fire to destroy evidence. Most of the deceased's body was burnt, but her elbows were completely intact, strengthening the suspicion that the fire was set post-mortem.

Station House Officer Pramod Kumar stated that there was a long-standing dispute between the deceased's sons, Manoj Kumar Singh (a teacher at DAV School in Khagaria) and Sanjay Kumar Shastri alias Pappu Singh, over approximately nine kathha of land. Police are investigating this land dispute as the potential cause of the murder. An FIR has been registered against Manoj Kumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Shastri alias Pappu Singh, and other unknown individuals. According to villagers, Veena Devi had three sons: Manoj Singh, Anuj Singh, and Sanjay Singh. Anuj Singh is already imprisoned in a case involving assault on the Parbatta Circle Officer.
