Rajeev Paswan, the Sarpanch of Churli Panchayat in Kishanganj district, has been arrested on charges of possessing and serving liquor at a private hotel, misbehaving with the police, and obstructing government work. He is also accused of destroying liquor during the raid. Police are currently taking further legal action in the matter.

On Monday night, a joint team of police and SSB, led by Kurlikot Station House Officer Abhishek Kumar, raided a hotel located at Jilebia Mod. During the raid, liquor was reportedly recovered from the hotel. Police allege that during the operation, the Sarpanch obstructed government work and destroyed the liquor, leading to his arrest.

According to the police, a raid was also conducted at the same hotel on Saturday night under the leadership of SDPO-2 Manoj Kumar Singh, during which Akram Rahi was apprehended on charges of consuming liquor and was sent to jail on Sunday. Following this, the investigation into the sale and consumption of liquor at the hotel was intensified, culminating in Sarpanch Rajeev Paswan's arrest on Monday.

Kurlikot SHO Abhishek Kumar stated that there had been continuous reports of liquor being kept and served at the hotel. About a month ago, a raid was conducted at the same hotel, but it was unsuccessful. Rajeev Paswan is also the district president of the Panchayati Raj Cell of the Lok Janshakti Party. SP Santosh Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that lawful action is being taken against the Sarpanch, and the police are investigating the entire matter related to liquor consumption and sale at the hotel. Such incidents, despite the liquor ban, raise questions about law enforcement and monitoring.
