किशनगंज जिले में कनकई नदी में कपड़े धोने गई एक युवती की डूबने से मौत हो गई। यह हृदय विदारक घटना 12 जुलाई को हुई थी, जब युवती नदी में डूब गई। घटना के पांच दिन बाद, 17 जुलाई को उसका शव पूर्णिया जिले के बायसी थाना क्षेत्र के एक गांव के पास कनकई नदी से बरामद किया गया। शव मिलने के बाद स्थानीय पुलिस ने उसे पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया है।
जानकारी के अनुसार, युवती किशनगंज के दिघलबैंक थाना क्षेत्र के सिंघारी गांव निवासी मोहम्मद जहांगीर की 20 वर्षीय बेटी थी। वह 12 जुलाई को कनकई नदी में कपड़ा धोने गई थी, तभी अचानक गहरे पानी में चली गई और डूब गई। घटना की सूचना मिलते ही स्थानीय लोगों और परिजनों ने उसकी तलाश शुरू की, लेकिन सफलता नहीं मिली। इसके बाद प्रशासन को सूचित किया गया और एसडीआरएफ (राज्य आपदा मोचन बल) की टीम को बचाव कार्य के लिए बुलाया गया।
एसडीआरएफ की टीम ने लगातार पांच दिनों तक नदी में युवती की तलाश की। टीम ने किशनगंज जिले के दिघलबैंक से लेकर पूर्णिया जिले के बायसी तक कनकई नदी के विभिन्न हिस्सों में गहन खोज अभियान चलाया। हालांकि, खराब मौसम और नदी में तेज बहाव के कारण बचाव कार्य में काफी दिक्कतें आईं। आखिरकार, पांचवें दिन पूर्णिया जिले के बायसी थाना क्षेत्र में नदी से शव बरामद किया गया।
शव मिलने के बाद एसडीआरएफ का रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन समाप्त कर दिया गया है। पुलिस ने शव को कब्जे में लेकर पोस्टमार्टम के लिए पूर्णिया सदर अस्पताल भेज दिया है। इस घटना से परिजनों में गहरा शोक व्याप्त है। स्थानीय प्रशासन ने परिजनों को हर संभव सहायता का आश्वासन दिया है। यह घटना एक बार फिर नदियों के किनारे सावधानी बरतने की आवश्यकता पर बल देती है।

Following the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was called in for a rescue operation. For five days, the SDRF team conducted an extensive search operation across various parts of the Kankai River, from Dighalbank in Kishanganj to Baisi in Purnia district. However, adverse weather conditions and strong currents in the river hampered rescue efforts.
Finally, on July 17, five days after the incident, her body was recovered from the Kankai River near a village under Baisi police station in Purnia district. Upon recovery, the SDRF's rescue operation was concluded. Local police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to Purnia Sadar Hospital. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the family, and local administration has assured them of all possible assistance. This incident underscores the importance of exercising caution near riverbanks.
