Maharajganj's Mata Jarti Mai Temple Gates Open for Devotees
A surge of devotion has been witnessed at the Mata Jarti Mai temple, located in Indauli Ward No. 10 of Maharajganj subdivision headquarters, on the occasion of Sharadiya Navratri. It is believed that Mata Jarti fulfills the wishes of every devotee who comes to her court with a true heart. According to the temple committee, Maa Kamakhya, the goddess of Kamrup, is present here in the form of Jarti Maiya.
While the temple sees devotees throughout the year, the crowd significantly increases during Sharadiya and Chaitra Navratri. Sanj Kumar, treasurer of the Jarti Mai Management Committee, shared the legend that in ancient times, Jhapi Bhagat of Indauli village went to Assam for work. There, he became deeply devoted to Maa Kamakhya in Kamrup. Pleased with his devotion, the goddess appeared before him. Jhapi Bhagat, in his devotion, offered one of his eyes at the feet of the Mother, who then asked him to seek a boon. Citing his old age, Jhapi Bhagat requested the Mother to accompany him home. The Mother accepted his request. Thereafter, Jhapi Bhagat took a nearby clay idol in his hands, in which Maa Kamakhya became enshrined. That same idol is now revered as Jarti Mai in the temple, and devotees have been worshipping her with full faith ever since.
The gates of the Jarti Mai temple in Maharajganj, one of the Shaktipeeths of Jagat Janani Maa Jagadamba, were opened for general devotees at 6 AM on the Saptami Tithi of Sharadiya Navratri. Siwan ADM Pramod Kumar, along with Anita Sinha, President of the Jarti Mai Temple Management Committee and Sub-Divisional Officer, and Aman, Vice President and SDPO, jointly inaugurated the gates. Abhay Singh, Secretary of the Jarti Mai Temple Management Committee, stated that during Navratri, the temple gates remain open for three days (Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami) to allow devotees from far and wide to receive the Mother's blessings.
