A man posing as an officer's driver has been apprehended by villagers and handed over to the police in Rajauli headquarters, Nawada district. He was allegedly defrauding shopkeepers and students. The incident occurred on Thursday around 3 PM at Bajrangbali Chowk.

The accused, identified as Vikas Kumar from Gopalpur village in Nawada, approached Kaushalya Devi at Bharti Beej Bhandar cum Khad Dukan at Bajrangbali Chowk, claiming to be an officer's driver and demanding five hundred rupees. Kaushalya Devi informed her husband, Ramashish Prasad, who was at a nearby cement shop. Upon arriving, Ramashish Prasad recognized the youth, stating that the same person had taken five hundred rupees from him a week prior, claiming to be the Rajauli BDO's driver, and had not returned the money. When confronted, Vikas Kumar attempted to flee.

During his escape, Kumar pushed Ramashish Prasad, injuring his hand. Local residents chased the fleeing youth, shouting 'thief, thief,' and finally caught him in Gopalpur mohalla. The police were then informed. Sub-Inspector Arvind Paswan arrived with police personnel and took the alleged fraudster into custody.

Earlier on the same day, the youth had attempted to defraud students who came to Rajauli Inter School to fill out their 12th-grade forms. The students reported that the man, identifying himself with a school teacher's name at the block premises, asked them to hand over their forms and money, claiming the teacher was in a meeting. However, the students did not fall for the trick and went directly to the school. They also managed to take a picture of the youth on their mobile phones at the block premises.

BDO Sanjeev Jha has urged residents to be vigilant against such fraudsters and advised victims to take legal action if anyone poses as his staff to commit fraud. Station House Officer cum Inspector Ranjeet Kumar stated that the police are investigating the matter and further action will be taken after the inquiry.
