Munger: Erosion Resumes in Kutlupur's Kachahari Tola, Three Wards at Risk
Munger: Erosion by the Ganga river has once again commenced in Kachahari Tola, Ward No. 16, under Kutlupur Panchayat in Sadar block. The changing course of the Ganga is exacerbating the erosion in this area, threatening the existence of three wards in Bahadur Nagar as the erosion's reach expands. According to villagers, the village is now merely 400 meters from the erosion site. If preventative measures are not implemented promptly, a significant portion of the village's population could be affected in the coming days.
There is an atmosphere of fear among the villagers due to the erosion. Locals apprehend that the rapid rate at which land is being swallowed by the river, owing to the Ganga's shifting course, could lead to a more dire situation. Residents state that this area has previously suffered extensive land loss due to Ganga erosion, and the renewed activity has heightened their concerns. Pankaj Kumar Singh, a villager, noted that the Ganga is continuously changing its direction, leading to the resumption of erosion near Kachahari Tola. He emphasized that if anti-erosion work is not initiated soon, the three wards of Bahadur Nagar could be at risk. Villagers, including Pappu Chaudhary and Arvind Kumar Yadav, have urged the administration and the flood control department to take immediate action. They stressed that unchecked erosion could force residents to abandon their homes and have demanded an inspection of the site and prompt commencement of protective measures. Meanwhile, Rajiv Kumar, Executive Engineer of the Flood Control Department, stated that currently, agricultural land is being eroded, but necessary action will be taken given the situation.
