Following severe floods in areas bordering Tibet in Nepal, the Muzaffarpur administration in Bihar has been put on high alert. The decision comes amidst concerns of a potential rise in the Gandak river's water level and the risk of flash floods. Special vigilance has been increased in areas along the riverbanks, particularly in the Sahebganj, Saraiya, and Paroo blocks.

District Magistrate Kumar Gaurav and the Senior Superintendent of Police held a meeting with officials to review preparedness for potential flooding. The District Magistrate instructed all necessary steps to be taken according to the government's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and emphasized the need for better coordination among departments. Surveillance has been intensified in regions bordering the Gandak river, and officials have been directed to gather information on the status of people residing in low-lying areas.

The Water Resources Department has been tasked with continuous monitoring of embankments and ensuring their safety. Circle Officers have been instructed to prepare arrangements for relocating people living between embankments to safe shelters if required, including reviewing the availability and facilities at potential relief camps. The administration has also called for pre-emptive arrangements for community kitchens, medical camps, and animal fodder camps.

Departments including Health, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, PHED, Panchayati Raj, and Rural Development have been directed to work in coordination. Public representatives are also to be kept in constant contact. The District Magistrate has urged residents not to panic, assuring them that the district administration is fully vigilant and prepared. Protecting lives and property and providing timely relief will be the administration's top priority in the event of a flood.
