In Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, residents of Kanta Piraucha Dakshini Panchayat in Gaighat block gheraoed JDU MLA Komal Singh on Wednesday, protesting her delayed response to the ongoing flood crisis. The MLA had arrived to assess the flood-affected areas, but as she was leaving, villagers blocked her vehicle, expressing their anger.

The villagers alleged that the area has been grappling with floods for about a week, yet the MLA only arrived much later to inquire about their well-being. They claimed that their lives have been severely disrupted by the floods, leading to numerous hardships, and that neither the MLA nor her representatives provided adequate assistance when they needed it most. Furthermore, villagers stated that many roads have been damaged and they have not received sufficient relief materials or even tarpaulins from the administration. They demanded that the administration initiate community kitchens, provide adequate relief supplies, and disburse GR (ex-gratia) payments to the affected families.

As the situation escalated, police and administrative officials present at the scene intervened, pacifying the villagers and safely escorting the MLA out. The Block Development Officer (BDO), Circle Officer (CO), and Block Chief, along with other local representatives, were also present. The incident has sparked a heated debate in the region regarding flood relief efforts and the role of public representatives. Villagers have urged the administration to expedite relief operations and ensure essential facilities reach all affected families.
