A tragic accident occurred in Narkatiaganj, West Champaran, where a mother and her five-year-old daughter were fatally struck by a MEMU passenger train coming from Muzaffarpur. The incident took place on Monday evening around 6 PM, approximately 2.5 kilometers from Narkatiaganj Junction, near Sofwa village on the Narkatiaganj-Muzaffarpur railway section.

The deceased have been identified as Janaki Devi (30), wife of Sankesh Chaudhary, and her daughter Pinjal Kumari, residents of Sofwa village under Shikarpur police station. It is reported that Sofwa village is situated on both sides of the railway track. On Monday evening, Janaki Devi, accompanied by her daughter, had crossed the railway track to another village to purchase groceries. After buying potatoes, onions, and other items, the mother and daughter were returning home by crossing the tracks when they were hit by the 63341 MEMU passenger train, which was en route from Muzaffarpur to Narkatiaganj. The accident occurred about a hundred meters from Railway Gate No. 19, and both died on the spot.

The presence of the bodies on the track disrupted train services for some time. The 19270 Porbandar Express, traveling from Muzaffarpur to Porbandar, had to be halted at Sathi station for about an hour. Upon receiving information about the incident, railway officials, RPF Post Commander Rituraj Kashyap, railway police officers, and Shikarpur police station personnel arrived at the scene to initiate investigations. The police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.

The news of this tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over Sofwa village and the surrounding areas. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the accident site, and the family members were inconsolable. The simultaneous death of the mother and daughter has brought deep sorrow to the entire village. Shikarpur Station House Officer Manoj Kumar Singh stated that an investigation into the matter is underway, and further action will be taken based on its findings.
