Paddy cultivation in Paliganj subdivision of Patna district is progressing at an alarmingly slow pace, causing significant distress among farmers. Only about 10% of the paddy fields have been transplanted so far, a critical delay given that this period is considered optimal for sowing. The primary reasons cited for this delay are the erratic monsoon and a severe shortage of water in the canals.

Farmers report that insufficient rainfall has left fields dry and unsuitable for transplantation. Even those with private borewells or other irrigation facilities are struggling due to the soaring prices of diesel. Local canals are also experiencing extremely low water levels, rendering them incapable of supplying water to the fields; many are completely dry.

Agriculture department officials emphasize that July is a crucial month for paddy transplantation. If adequate rainfall does not occur in the coming days or if canal water is not released, it could severely impact paddy yields. This would not only affect the economic well-being of farmers but also pose a threat to the region's agricultural economy.

Farmers are continuously appealing to the government and concerned departments to release water into the canals and consider alternative irrigation methods. They believe that if timely action is not taken, this year's paddy crop could be ruined, leading to substantial losses for them.
