A 40-year-old doctor from Patna, identified as Dr. Gautam, has died by suicide in Varanasi by injecting himself with a poisonous substance. On Saturday, after attending to patients, Dr. Gautam reportedly took a syringe and injection from the hospital's OT and went to his room, locking the door. When his room remained closed past 10 PM and he did not show up for dinner at the canteen, a security guard grew suspicious and alerted hospital staff.

Doctors attempted to contact him by phone and knocking on his door, but received no response. Peeking through the window, they found Dr. Gautam deceased, sitting on his bed. Police were then called and forcibly entered the room, discovering an injection nearby. Initial police investigations suggest that Dr. Gautam was involved in a dispute with his wife. It is believed that the argument escalated after a phone conversation with her on Saturday evening, leading him to take this drastic step.

Dr. Gautam had been working as a urologist at Shubhankhar Heritage Institute of Medical Science for three years and resided alone in campus accommodation number 802. He was married five years ago and had studied at AIIMS Delhi. Fellow doctors reported that he had been distressed for some time and had shown changes in his behavior. Police and a forensic team arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. His family members have departed from Patna for Varanasi.
