Students' agitation at Patna University intensified on Thursday as members of the All India Students' Federation (AISF), who had been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past four days, announced a university shutdown. Protesting students entered various university offices, disrupting work and switching off lights, and locked the Academic Council. AISF members also reached the Urdu Department and Commerce College, attempting to halt activities before proceeding to empty classrooms.

The agitating students declared that their protest would continue until the university administration takes concrete decisions on their demands. The AISF movement addresses multiple issues, including the alleged paper leak in the LLB entrance examination, a significant hike in postgraduate fees, and the failure to commence the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program. These are among the 10-point demands for which students have been on hunger strike.

On Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh invited the striking students for talks. A five-member AISF delegation met with the VC, but the discussions failed to yield any concrete resolution. Following this, the AISF decided to shut down the university on Thursday. Students accuse the VC of not taking their demands seriously and have called for his resignation. AISF student Sabina stated that the health of the students on hunger strike for four days is deteriorating, yet the VC remains evasive. A team of doctors is continuously monitoring the students. The AISF has also demanded the immediate removal of the VC and warned of escalating the protest if their demands are not positively addressed.
