A prisoner escaped from the Minapur police station in Muzaffarpur district early Sunday morning, unlocking his handcuffs. The accused had been arrested the previous night for possessing an illegal weapon. The incident, reported around 4 AM, caused a stir within the police department. The prisoner managed to remove his handcuffs and flee directly from the police station premises.

Upon receiving the information, the police immediately launched raids in nearby areas to apprehend him. The search for the escaped prisoner is ongoing, and an investigation into the entire incident has been initiated.

This is not the first instance of prisoners escaping from police custody in Muzaffarpur district. In recent years, similar incidents have been reported from Paroo, Sadar, Kurhani, and Karja police stations, raising serious questions about police efficiency and security protocols. For example, from Paroo police station, liquor smuggler Deepak Kumar escaped by feigning a need to use the restroom. At Sadar police station, an intoxicated accused fled, capitalizing on the negligence of the sentry and constable. Actions were taken against the involved police personnel in both cases.

Similarly, at Kurhani police station, an accused in an old liquor smuggling case, Bholu Sah, pushed aside a चौकीदार (watchman) while going to the toilet and escaped with his handcuffs. From Karja police station, Vipin Sahni and Mohd. Azad, arrested with weapons and charas, also escaped under mysterious circumstances from the lock-up. Administrative actions were taken against the duty personnel in those incidents as well. The latest escape from Minapur police station once again highlights concerns regarding the security arrangements of police custody. The recurring nature of such incidents has intensified discussions about the monitoring of police lock-ups and the overall security system for prisoners.
