Even a light spell of rain has exposed the inadequate drainage system of Purnia Municipal Corporation. On Thursday, minor rainfall led to severe waterlogging on Line Bazar and Postmortem Road, causing immense difficulties for commuters. Both roads were submerged knee-deep, posing challenges for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Line Bazar is a major commercial hub in Purnia, frequented by a large number of people daily for shopping and other activities. Postmortem Road is also a crucial route leading to the Sadar Hospital. Waterlogging on these two vital roads disrupted normal life. Local shopkeepers reported that this problem recurs every monsoon season, yet the Municipal Corporation has failed to implement a permanent solution.

The waterlogging has also resulted in mud and filth spreading across the roads, increasing the risk of diseases. Residents stated that due to the lack of proper drainage, rainwater accumulates on the roads and takes hours to recede. This not only obstructs traffic but also forces pedestrians to wade through contaminated water, which is detrimental to health.

Local residents and business owners have urged the Municipal Corporation to find a permanent solution to this issue as soon as possible. They emphasize that cleaning drains and constructing an efficient drainage system are key to resolving the problem. If not addressed promptly, the situation could worsen with more rainfall in the coming days.
