A long-standing land dispute in Kalyanpur police station area of Samastipur district escalated into violence, leading to the fatal stabbing of a man. The incident occurred at a grocery store in Bhagirathpur village during a dispute over buying tobacco and gutkha.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Ajit Sahni, a resident of Garha village, under Kalyanpur police station. The primary suspect in the murder is 55-year-old Jhagaddu Sahni, who resides in a nearby hamlet of Bhagirathpur. According to preliminary police investigations, the two had an ongoing dispute over land valued at four lakh rupees.

On Saturday, both individuals arrived at Urmila Devi's grocery store in Bhagirathpur village. A discussion about buying tobacco and gutkha triggered the old land dispute. An argument ensued, escalating quickly, during which Jhagaddu Sahni allegedly stabbed Ajit in the stomach with a sharp knife.

Critically injured, Ajit was rushed to Sadar Hospital by his family and locals, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Upon receiving news of the incident, Kalyanpur police arrived at the scene, and an FSL team was called in due to the gravity of the case. The team inspected the crime scene and collected crucial forensic evidence.

Villagers informed the police that the accused, Jhagaddu Sahni, had been exhibiting abnormal behavior for some time and was undergoing treatment in Muzaffarpur. Police are investigating this lead. Under the direction of SSP Arvind Pratap Singh, a team led by Sadar-2 Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sanjay Kumar has been formed to apprehend the accused, and raids are being conducted at potential hideouts.

The police have conducted a post-mortem on Ajit Sahni's body and handed it over to his family. The family is in mourning following the incident. Sadar SDPO Sanjay Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that all aspects of the case are being investigated, and efforts to arrest the accused are ongoing.
