A video alleging irregularities in the public distribution system (PDS) for ration distribution in Samastipur district, Bihar, has gone viral on social media. The video, reportedly from a PDS shop in Indrawara Panchayat of Morwa block, shows beneficiaries allegedly receiving less grain than the prescribed quantity.

The viral video captures an individual distributing rations claiming to give four kilograms instead of the stipulated five kilograms. A heated argument ensues when a beneficiary demands the full quantity. The beneficiary alleges receiving less grain, while the distributor claims that they themselves receive less stock from above. The video also shows an electronic scale initially displaying 9 kg 200 grams when rations are first placed on it, but then showing 10 kg after a second attempt, leading to claims that each consumer is being shortchanged by approximately one kilogram.

It is reported that this PDS shop is operated under a woman's name and has received complaints at the local level previously. Taking serious note of the matter, Morwa Block Supply Officer (MO) Amarnath Pathak stated that he has received the viral video and an investigation is underway. He clarified that if the allegations are found to be true during the investigation, strict legal action, including the cancellation of the ration shop's license, will be taken. This incident once again highlights the ongoing irregularities in Bihar's ration distribution system.
