शेखपुरा जिले के करंडे थाना क्षेत्र के भिखनी गांव में 3 अक्टूबर को 19 वर्षीय नवविवाहिता सोनी कुमारी की संदिग्ध मौत के मामले ने शुक्रवार को नया मोड़ ले लिया। मृतका के मायके, सिझौड़ी गांव के सैकड़ों ग्रामीण पुलिस की कार्यशैली से नाराज होकर करंडे थाना पहुंच गए और जमकर हंगामा किया।
ग्रामीणों का आरोप था कि उन्होंने सोनी के पति कुशेश्वर महतो और ससुर लक्ष्मण महतो को खुद पकड़कर पुलिस के हवाले किया था। शुक्रवार सुबह उन्होंने मृतका की सास मीना देवी को भी पकड़ा और पुलिस को सूचना दी, लेकिन पुलिस सूचना के बावजूद काफी देर से पहुंची। इस देरी से नाराज होकर ग्रामीणों ने पुलिस अधिकारियों पर कार्रवाई की मांग की।
स्थिति की गंभीरता को देखते हुए एडिशनल एसपी डॉ. राकेश कुमार, पुलिस अंचल निरीक्षक राजीव कुमार और चेवाड़ा थाना अध्यक्ष हरेंद्र यादव सहित अन्य पुलिस पदाधिकारी दल-बल के साथ करंडे थाना पहुंचे। ग्रामीणों ने थाना अध्यक्ष ममता गिरी और अपर थाना अध्यक्ष कौशर आलम पर कार्य में शिथिलता बरतने का आरोप लगाते हुए उनके खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग की।
एडिशनल एसपी डॉ. राकेश कुमार ने ग्रामीणों को समझा-बुझाकर शांत कराया और आश्वासन दिया कि मामले में स्पीडी ट्रायल के जरिए दोषियों को कड़ी सजा दिलाने का प्रयास किया जाएगा। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि पुलिस की लापरवाही से संबंधित लिखित शिकायत मिलने पर आरोपों की जांच कर संबंधित पदाधिकारियों पर कार्रवाई की जाएगी। इसके बाद मामला शांत हुआ।
गौरतलब है कि सोनी की शादी 29 अप्रैल को भिखनी गांव निवासी कुशेश्वर महतो से हुई थी। 3 अक्टूबर को उसकी संदिग्ध परिस्थितियों में मौत हो गई थी। मायके पक्ष ने स्थानीय थाने में प्राथमिकी दर्ज कराकर पति, सास और ससुर पर जहर देकर हत्या करने तथा दहेज में 30 लाख रुपये की जमीन मांगने और प्रताड़ित करने का आरोप लगाया था। इस मामले में 4 अक्टूबर को पति और ससुर को गिरफ्तार कर जेल भेजा जा चुका है, जबकि सास को शुक्रवार को ग्रामीणों ने पुलिस के हवाले किया, जिसे जेल भेजने की कार्रवाई शुरू कर दी गई है।
A new turn emerged on Friday in the suspicious death case of 19-year-old newlywed Soni Kumari, who died on October 3 in Bhikhni village, Karande police station area, Sheikhpura. Hundreds of villagers from Soni's maternal home, Sijhauri village, reached Karande police station, expressing anger over the police's handling of the case, and staged a massive protest.
Villagers alleged that they had themselves apprehended Soni's husband, Kusheshwar Mahto, and father-in-law, Laxman Mahto, and handed them over to the police. On Friday morning, they also caught Soni's mother-in-law, Meena Devi, and informed the police. However, they claimed that despite being informed, the police arrived considerably late. Infuriated by this delay, the villagers demanded action against the police officials.
Seeing the tense situation, Additional SP Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Police Circle Inspector Rajiv Kumar, Chewara Station House Officer Harendra Yadav, along with other police officers and forces, arrived at Karande police station. Villagers accused Station House Officer Mamta Giri and Additional Station House Officer Kausar Alam of negligence and demanded action against them.
Additional SP Dr. Rakesh Kumar pacified the protesting villagers, assuring them that efforts would be made to ensure severe punishment for the culprits through a speedy trial. He also stated that if a written complaint regarding police negligence was received, the allegations would be investigated, and action would be taken against the concerned officers. Following this, the situation calmed down.
Soni was married to Kusheshwar Mahto of Bhikhni village on April 29. Her suspicious death occurred on October 3. Her maternal family had filed an FIR at the local police station, accusing her husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law of poisoning her, demanding 30 lakh rupees for land as dowry, and harassment. In this case, the husband and father-in-law were arrested and sent to jail on October 4, while the mother-in-law was handed over to the police by villagers on Friday, and proceedings to send her to jail have begun.
